Original batik and hand-painted fabrics
Portland, Oregon

I have been a practicing batik artist for a decade. My early artistic career was primarily focused on oil painting when I lived in my native Japan and when I first lived in Oregon. Currently I am a member of Portland Saturday Market, which is celebrating its 33rd year of existence this year. For the past six years at the Market my batik art has evolved into a unique style which has met with increasing sales and many returning customers. At the Market I sell prints of my originals which are mounted onto wood blocks with various specially textured papers. I also present prints in more traditional forms suitable for framing.
My subjects are mainly landscapes and native fauna and flora. Part of what makes my work unique is the method I use to create each piece, which is a hybrid of traditional batik methods (with the step-by-step wax resist and dye bath applications) and fabric painting methods.
My work has been displayed in various galleries in Oregon and I also participate in juried art shows such as the Bend Fall Festival, the Corvallis Fall Festival, and the Audubon Wild Arts Festival in Portland. This work continues to take me in new directions and I plan on refining my art this year and throughout my career.
